Both the Brahms Second Piano Concerto and Symphony stand in sharp contrast to their immediate predecessors. One of Brahms’s friends characterized the Second Piano Concerto, composed twenty years after the First, as “that of a grown man to the youth.” And the Second Symphony is a charming, lyrical work capped by one of Brahms’ most carefree and exuberant finales, the perfect culmination of a magnificent season.

Berlioz’ Fantastic Symphony continues, almost two centuries after its premiere, to transport audiences on a breathtaking ride—culminating in the hair-raising finale where all hell breaks loose, the Dream of a Witches’ Sabbath.
